Subtitles.
May 1, 2009
So, after an afternoon in social class watching “Schindler’s List” I discovered two things:
1. The movie itself is very dry, with the plot moving about the speed of smell.
2. They are supposedly in German occupied Poland, yet everyone speaks English. This is, of course, because the Germans certainly don’t want to watch movies like this and because the number German speaking Canadians are significantly less than profit margins.
However. It bothers me greatly.
I found out about myself that I would rather read subtitles and have everyone speak German then watch the movie in English. Because it would be far more accurate. It’s like being in English forces me to remember that it’s all fake and scripted. I can hardly get sucked into a plotline that refuses to lead me to believe it’s real.
Which furthers my boredom in that class.
Shame. Poor movie directors.
